Yorkshire long weekend…

A little while ago now I went to the Yorkshire Dales for a long weekend. It’s very picturesque, particularly towards the end of the afternoon when the sun begins to slant across the hills.

I can recommend staying at Farmhouse at Wharfdale just out of Ilkley town centre. Apparently a deer visits at dawn and dusk to munch on the garden, we didn’t see it though.

Ilkley: Calf and Cow geological feature overlooks Ilkley. The Cow and rocks around it have been carved by visitors for well over 100 years. Across the road is the Cow and Calf pub. Very nice.

Aysgarth Falls area

Visited the Bronte Parsonage Museum, located in the house where they all lived. An excellent exhibit, very educational. I didn’t realise they all died so young.

Bolton Abbey: unbelievably packed with tourists, but it’s still possible to find a piece of riverbank and imagine you’ve all that gentle beauty to yourself.
